Buy-to-let properties in the UK have overtaken gold as the safe haven of choice for investors, with a fall in the price of gold and the Swiss franc struggling, the track record of property investments, both long and short term, is providing a positive alternative.


With fears growing in the market as the Greek debt crisis continues, the UK property market has seen huge growth as home builders, estate agents and listings sites experience returns that are up to 30 times higher than those available on the FTSE 100.


The current success of the real estate market in the UK is being driven by the structural undersupply of properties in the UK. The competition between first time buyers and property investment purchasers has intensified as supply for properties of two-bedrooms or fewer has remained far lower than demand.
This market balance has allowed buy-to-let investors to benefit from the increasing market value of property through capital appreciation as well as enjoying record rental returns.


With population growth in areas such as London and Manchester, and growing demand throughout the UK, the value of properties as well as the rental rates that they can command are rising. The absence of sufficient supply in the UK property market is expected to continue for the foreseeable future, perpetuating the favourable conditions that property purchasers are currently experiencing.
