The average property asking price has risen by 7.3% across the UK according to the latest figures from Rightmove.

The rise has been led by a surge in London property, where asking prices have increased by 15.9% and are beginning to filter out to the rest of the UK.

The annual rise in the capital is at its highest figure since November 2007, before the financial crisis. The average asking price in London has now reached £572,348, with sellers expected to achieve profits of nearly £20,000.

The demand for property has continued to increase over the past twelve months in spite of the increased number of homes going onto the UK’s property market, with 13% more homes being listed on Rightmove over that period.

For the second month in a row, the average house price in England and Wales reached a new record high, with a 2.6% increase to £262,594. Year-on-year, the new figures show a 7.3% increase, the largest annual rise since October 2007.
