MediaCityUK £1bn Expansion

Plans for the second phase of the MediaCityUK in Salford have been submitted, as the site prepares to double in in size over the next decade.

The £1bn construction scheme could see 10 new buildings added, joining the existing headquarters for globally recognised broadcasters such as the BBC and ITV at the Salford Quays location.

The phase two plans submitted to Salford City Council include more than 500,000 square foot of office space, retail and leisure spaces, public squares and promenades, and more than 1,800 new homes.

The first phase of MediaCityUK was completed in 2011 and is now home to more than 250 businesses, becoming a hub in the North West for the media and creative industries.

Expansion plans for the development form part of a wider regeneration programme in the city of Salford, which will see more than £650bn invested in the region over the next decade, including Salford city centre.

The impact of investment into Salford has already been reflected in the local property market, with property price growth in the city outpacing London in 2014 and demand continuing to grow, as yesterday it was reported that the number of properties sold in Salford rose by more than 20% in 2015.
