More office buildings have been under construction in central London in the last 6 months than in the last 20 years, according to a new report.

Deloitte’s latest London Office Crane Survey, which tracks the number of office schemes under construction across central London, shows that 110 schemes are currently under construction – the highest level recorded in the last 20 years.

These latest figures show that the total volume of London’s office delivery pipeline is now at 14.2 million sq. ft. – an increase of 28% over the last six months and the highest level since before the economic crisis hit in 2008.

Although the report points out a rise in total sq. ft. of office space, the actual availability of office space is at the lowest point with 42% of all the offices currently under construction having been already let.

The outlook for London’s office property market over the coming year is set to give tenants more choice due to the increase in new developments. In fact, 38% of the current office buildings currently under construction are set for completion within a 12-month period and total volumes are set to increase to 16 million sq. ft. in the next six months.

The report, measuring the volume and impact of office development in London, indicates the city is continuing to progress and evolve with an increasing number of new businesses joining the landscape of the city.
