Northern Powerhouse Investment United States

The government’s investment in the Northern Powerhouse has seen significant success, as more than half of M&A transactional deals from America took place in the North of England.

Figures from Deloitte found that an increasing number of American investors are turning to the North West for their mergers and acquisitions investments, with 51 out of the 93 transactions that have taken place between US and UK investors since the beginning of 2013.

The news follows David Cameron’s visit to the United States in September, where the Prime Minister presented the benefits of the Northern Powerhouse to some of the world’s largest companies in an attempt to encourage further investment in the North of England.

Another of the Prime Minister’s international trips to promote the Northern Powerhouse last year culminated in several investment deals with Chinese investors, culminating in a £1.2 billion deal with Hualing Industry and Trade Group, which could see 10,000 new homes built and 18,000 new jobs in the North.

The Northern Powerhouse attracted a great deal of global attention, with companies from around the world expressing interest in capitalising on the government’s £7 billion investment in creating a new economic centre in the north of England.

The government’s commitment to investing in greater technology and infrastructure in the North is one of the key factors in the success of the Northern Powerhouse so far, according to Ian Marlow, assistant director at Deloitte, with the investment, ‘ensuring that the Northern Powerhouse remains an exciting place for international companies and investors to do business.’
